Quality Assessment Tools in Hospitals
Towards a voluntary European Accreditation System ?

  Introduction - Invitation

  The context of the seminar
Hospitals in Europe face challenges like increasing patient mobility and the free movement of trained staff, cross-border purchasing of health care services triggering increased competition, the protection of public safety and patients’ rights....
Services offered around Europe however vary widely in terms of quality and the terminology of “high-quality health care” as such is not yet defined commonly in European countries.
Recent evolutions like the consultation of Health Services by the European Commission and the recent resolution adopted by the European Parliament indicates it is timely to speak about possible support measures on a European scale to ensure and assess the quality of care.

With this seminar EAHM wants to open the floor for health policy makers and hospital managers.

  Overview of program
The goal of this seminar is first to give an overview of existing systems of quality assessment methods in health care. In a scientific approach the systems will be compared to one another. This is followed by the viewpoint of the European Commission. An academic vision on quality will close the first part.
In a second part users (and especially hospital directors) are invited to speak about their experiences when implementing the assessment methods in their health care institutions.
Finally, representatives from the various existing systems will hold a round table debate and answer remaining questions.

The European Association of Hospital Managers (EAHM) invites you to attend this seminar, which takes place in Düsseldorf, Germany on November 16th 2007.

Participation is free but registration is required.
